Be honest about what each part does. An intake system buys airflow headroom and lower exhaust gas temperatures on a tuned or hard-worked truck; it does not add meaningful power to a stock one. 7.3L (1994.5–2003) A simple airbox and intake tract. Intake work here is mostly about filtration quality and a clean, sealed path; the engine's airflow needs are modest by modern standards.
6.0L (2003–2007) The intercooler boots and clamps are a genuine weak point — they split or blow off under boost and instantly cost power and fuel economy. A boot-and-clamp kit is one of the highest-value parts in this category. The CCV system also pulls oil into the intake tract over time.

Does a cold air intake add horsepower to a stock Power Stroke?
Not meaningfully. On a stock diesel the factory intake isn't the limiting factor, so a new intake mostly changes sound and filtration. Where an intake earns its keep is on a tuned or heavily-worked truck, where the extra airflow lowers exhaust gas temperatures and gives you more headroom before you have to back out of the throttle.
How do I know if an intercooler boot has blown off?
You'll usually feel it as a sudden loss of power under boost with a fuel-economy drop and, on many trucks, no check-engine light at all. A boost-leak pressure test finds it in minutes. On the 6.0 this is common enough that boots and clamps should be on the suspect list before the turbo is.
Dry filter or oiled filter?
Both work when maintained correctly. Oiled cotton filters flow well and are reusable but must be re-oiled sparingly — over-oiling is the classic cause of a fouled airflow sensor. Dry synthetic filters are more forgiving to service. Pick the one you'll actually maintain on schedule.
